If you are a secondary school teacher, a first responder, military, or living below 300% of the poverty line you may qualify to receive care for substantially reduced fees through Dr. Josie's 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, Chiro Connect. To determine eligibility, please complete this online application or talk to Dr. Josie at your next visit.
Do you offer home visits?
Dr. Josie has very limited availabity for home visits that changes based on her current case load. If you are interested in a home visit please submit a request here.
Does it hurt?
Nothing during the appointment should hurt, although some people find the popping sound made during the adjustment a bit startling. Certain injuries could cause pain during examination and treatment but Dr. Josie will modify her techniques for each individual/injury.
What should I expect during the first appointment?
The first visit will last 45 minutes to an hour. Dr. Josie will start by taking a history of your chief complaint and overall health. She will then perform an exam which commonly includes a posture assessment, range of motion, muscle testing, neurological testing, and palpation of muscles and joints. Dr. Josie usually transitions seamlessly from exam into treatment. Treatment during the first visit typically includes adjustments, muscle work, and craniosacral therapy. Although some exam findings may be discussed during the first visit, a full report of findings and recommendations are made at the first follow-up visit.
*Dr. Josie almost always treats during the first visit! The only exception to this is the rare instance when exam findings contraindicate treatment. *
What should I expect during return visits?
Return visits last anywhere from 10 minutes-30 minutes depending on the services rendered. Dr. Josie will discuss which services will be most beneficial to you during the first follow-up visit and as needed during the course of your care. You can expect to spend the entirety of a return visit on the table receiving treatment. If you have a new injury or concern however, Dr. Josie will need to spend some of the time on history and exam.
How many visits will I need?
The number of visits recommended varies greatly person to person and depending on the situation. Although possible, it is rare that problems are resolved in one visit. Dr. Josie requests that every patient commit to at least two visits. At the second visit Dr. Josie will provide an individualized plan of care. An example of a plan of care to treat a musculoskeletal injury would be two visits weekly for 4 weeks. After an injury has healed Dr. Josie commonly recommends a preventive plan of care such as one visit per month. Packages and discounts are available to assist in compliance with plan of care.
Is chiropractic safe?
Yes, chiropractic care is very safe for patients of all ages and a great alternative to riskier treatments such as medication, injections and surgery. Like all other treatments however, chiropractic does carry some risks including soreness, bruising, and in extremely rare cases broken bones and stroke. Well trained chiropractors should be able to avoid bruising and broken bones. And although several cases of stroke after chiropractic manipulation have been reported, studies have found that patients presenting with neck pain are equally as likely to show symptoms of a stroke after visiting their PCP as they are a chiropractor. Please see the articles below for more detailed information on the safety of chiropractic.
